How to Make Fudgy Brownies from Cake Mix

Fudgy brownies have a similar texture to fudge but are more moist, dense, and gooey. The amount of fat to flour is higher in fudgy brownies than in cakey ones. Add more fat by using butter and chocolate in this instance.

Cakey brownies are, as their name suggests, light, moist, and airy with an interior that has a faint cake-like texture. More flour and baking powder are used to leaven cakey brownies. Whether you want your baked goods to be cakey or fudgy, the sugar and egg amounts remain the same.  It all boils down to personal opinion when it comes to deciding between cakey and fudgy brownies.

What do you need to make fudgy brownies from cake mix?

To make fudgy brownies from a cake mix, you will need to get some basic ingredients. You will need a cake mix, butter, chocolate chips, eggs, and milk. You will need some common tools like a plastic spatula, a large bowl, a baking pan, parchment paper and an oven.

How to make fudgy brownies from cake mix

To begin with, pour a box of cake mix into the bowl.

Add your butter and eggs and stir until it mixes uniformly. As the mixture is stirred, it becomes thick.

You can now add your chocolate chips. Ensure that the mixture does not have packets of cake mix.

Spray your pan or line with parchment paper and add the mix. Make sure it is smoothed out and the same thickness across your pan so they cook evenly.

Finally, bake in a preheated oven at 350 degrees Celsius for about 18-20 minutes or until the edges are slightly brown and the middle is no longer wet, do not overbake.

Tips and variations for making fudgy brownies from cake mix

Note that the temperature and time requirements might not be exact. Ovens do vary slightly and if you are at elevation it may take a minute or two beyond that.

The key is to remove the pan once the edges and outside are 1.5 inches or so are somewhat stiff and the middle is not liquid any longer.

Do not slice right away, it still needs more time to stiffen up. Put the pan on a cooling rack or leave it until completely cool and then slice and serve. If you don’t it will be quite a bit wetter and more like a scoop rather than a nice square.

Depending on your preference, you may decide to add a few more ingredients to the mix to give it a different taste. Bananas, milk, pudding mix, strawberry, and vanilla extract.

The vanilla extract will add depth of flavor and make the chocolate flavor shine even more. Butter– You will need to use melted butter instead of oil for added richness. It’s one of those ingredients where a little goes a long way. Taste-wise, the result of adding too much vanilla extract to a recipe is an overwhelming vanilla/alcohol flavor and a bad aftertaste.

Now it’s your turn…

In a nutshell, if you are thinking of making for yourself brownies, don’t forget fudgy brownies are one of the best. All you will need is a cake mix, butter, chocolate chips, and eggs. Pour a cake mix into a large bowl, and add butter and eggs. Ensure that the mixture is thoroughly mixed. Dish out the mix into a baking pan and bake in a preheated oven at 350 degrees Celsius for 18 – 25 minutes. When it’s ready do not be in a hurry to cut it into squares. Allow brownies to cool as the cooling allows the binding of the particles together. You can now safely cut into squares and serve. Enjoy your fudgy brownies.
